Why You’ll Love Our Sriracha Aioli
Simple 4-ingredient spicy mayo dressing that is whipped up in less than 5 minutes, our sriracha aioli is one you will make over and over again.
What I love about our spicy sriracha aioli is its versatility. It can go on anything! Great alternative spicy salad dressing for coleslaw or try it with burgers, chicken wings, sandwiches, salmon sushi rice, shrimp, crab cakes, fish tacos, wedges or anything you can think of.
For us, it is a great dipping sauce for parsnip fries. Use it with our kani salad, or rather than Marie Rose cocktail sauce for prawns, use this! Our sriracha salad dressing is a must try.
Plus, you can adapt the flavours of this sriracha aioli recipe to your liking. The recipe itself is not overly spicy, so suitable for everyone to enjoy. However, if you prefer more spice, just add more sriracha. If you prefer less garlic, adjust the garlic. Plenty of room to create your own version.
Sriracha aioli is one for those who love tangy, garlicky and spicy creamy sauces!
What is Sriracha?
Primarily made from chilli paste, vinegar, garlic, sugar and salt, Sriracha is a slightly thick concoction that is similar to ketchup. Thought to have originated from the town Si Racha, 120 km southeast of Bangkok, Thailand but made famous by the version created by Huy Fong Foods based in California.
It now produces over 3,000 bottles every hour, 24 hours a day, six days a week – that’s 20 million bottles a year. Possibly one of the most popular condiments around the globe.
Typically speaking, sriracha is gluten free as it does not contain ingredients that have gluten. However, it is essential to check the label to confirm.
The tangy, spicy sauce is fantastic on almost everything – a classic dipping sauce for Vietnamese pho and essential on Thai fried noodles.
We use it often in our salad dressing recipes to add a hint of spice, just like in spicy tuna salad. And we’ve seen it on top of pork baos, added in stews and in cocktails. There are so many new sriracha recipes these days; it’s only your imagination that would limit you.
What Is The Difference Between Aioli and Mayonnaise?
We do sometimes get confused between aioli and mayonnaise. They look pretty much the same.
Traditionally, aioli is an emulsion of a whole lot of crushed garlic and olive oil. However, over the years, aioli has evolved into more of a creamier version. Today, when we refer to aioli, we would generally mean a mayonnaise-based dressing flavoured with a generous amount of garlic.
You can, of course, make your own mayonnaise as the base for this spicy sriracha aioli, but this recipe uses store-bought mayonnaise as a base. Super easy and tastes delicious.
Ingredients
Here are the ingredients you will need to make sriracha aioli:
- Sriracha: This spicy sauce is synonymous with so many dishes and is a must-have at home! If you’re not familiar with Sriracha, here it is.
- Mayonnaise: We love whole egg and super creamy mayonnaise. You can’t go wrong with Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise. If you need a vegan version, Hellmann’s does a vegan mayo too.
- Garlic: No Asian style salad dressing would be complete without some pungent garlic.
- Lemon: This dressing needs some citrusy goodness to balance out all the flavours.
Variations and Substitutions
Vegan option: Switch whole egg mayonnaise for vegan mayonnaise.
Lemon or lime juice: I used lemon juice because that is what I had at the time. Lime juice or even a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar would also work in this recipe.
No garlic: If you are not a big garlic fan, reduce the amount to 1 garlic clove or omit it altogether for a spicy mayo sauce.
Instructions
Step by step instructions for how to make sriracha aioli:
Peel and finely mince 2 cloves of garlic.
In a small bowl, add crushed garlic, mayonnaise, sriracha and lemon juice.
Whisk together until well combined.
How to Make This Dressing Perfectly [Expert Tips]
Taste and adjust: Check the spiciness of sriracha aioli and adjust accordingly.
Check consistency: If you want a thinner sriracha salad dressing, incorporate additional olive oil or lemon juice to achieve the preferred texture.
Using a food processor: If you’re making a larger batch to store for the week, just add all ingredients to a food processor and blend until the ingredients are combined and creamy.
How to Store
Homemade sriracha aioli is a great spicy dressing to make ahead of time. Store in an airtight container and keep well in fridge for up to 5 days.
