Citrus Red Wine Vinaigrette
This Citrus Red Wine Vinaigrette is an incredibly refreshing salad dressing that can be made in just 5-minutes. Healthy, naturally sweet and plant-based, it’s perfect for so many recipes.
Red wine vinegar is a staple in my pantry and makes a more than regular appearance in my salad dressings.
It occurred to me when I was making this vinaigrette that I never really stopped to think about what it really is and does it actually have any health benefits?
Vinegar is a liquid that consists of acetic acid and water. Red wine is but one of many different types of vinegars we can find. Red wine is left to ferment until it becomes sour.
The intensity of its flavour is dependent upon how long it is aged for. Obviously, the longer it is aged, the more robust it is and the less full on its taste.
From a nutrition perspective, it’s a popular condiment because it has no fat, zero carbs and has some vitamin C. It also contains traces of calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium.
From a salad dressing perspective, it makes a whole lot of sense to add vinegar to allow for a truly intense flavour and to help enhance a salad. It’s all about balance!
